Athletics: Avon Valley Runners wheeled out the crocks to compete in the Bratton Hilly 11K race.

After a hard starting slog up Castle Road onto Salisbury Plain where the 115 runners were faced with battling a strong gusting wind before the descent back into the village.

Just a few weeks shy of his 50th birthday and returning from injury Bob Ellis led home the Avon Valley Runners team in 7th place and 2nd MV40, recording 48:57.

In 10th place and also returning from injury Stuart MacGregor recorded 49:40 and claimed the 1st MV50 prize.

In 14th place recording 51:49 was Mike Pace finishing as 3rd MV40 just ahead of the perpetually injured Darren Wrintmore who recorded 52:07 to secure the Men’s team prize for Avon Valley Runners ahead of Leicester’s Birstall Harriers.

The AVR ladies were led home by Sue MacGregor in 50th place overall finishing as 2nd FV45, followed two places later by Rose Barber who claimed the 1st FV55 prize.

In 65th place Clare Williamson recorded 64:07 to win the 1st FV35 prize with 72nd placed Julia Scott and 86th placed Genevieve Sharam completing the Avon Valley Runners ladies team challenge behind Warminster Running Club.
