Athletics: Trowbridge sprinting prospect Afeni Payne-Bonnick celebrated her 11th birthday in style by claiming three gold medals at the Wiltshire County AA Championships in Tidworth on Sunday.
The track and field starlet equalled the 26-year championship record for the U13 girls’ 100m by completing it a time of 13.7 seconds.
Afeni, who only turned 11 on Tuesday, bagged gold in the 100m, 200m and long jump to continue the perfect start to her career.
Mum Hayley Payne said: “She has won all the races she’s entered, that’s six out of six now.
“She started training with Team Bath under 13s in January and she’s loving every minute of it.”
Her coach at Team Bath, Julie Fielding, has tipped the youngster as one to watch for the future.
She said: “Afeni is undefeated at this moment in time and she still has another year at running in this age group, so she is only going to get better.
“She comes along to training every week with a massive smile on her face and enjoys every minute.
“She is so young, but a very talented athlete and just enjoys her running.
“She is certainly an up-and-coming star of the future.
“If she carries on like she has done she will go far.”
