Cricket: A century from Steve Bullen saw Corsham claim another winning draw to continue their solid start to the season in Premier One.
Bullen’s ton allowed Corsham captain Peter Dennett to move his big hitters up the order.
Dennett said: “I’m very pleased with the performance, if we keep playing like that we’ll be at the right end of the table.
“Corsham is always going to be a good batting wicket but Steve’s knock and Sam Collier’s 47 allowed me to reshuffle the batting order.
“Sam was making his first start of the season and put in probably his best performance opening the innings.”
Dennett made good use of his side’s batting flexibiliy, promoting Peter Turner to number five where he smote 69 runs from just 35 balls.
With an imposing 288 to chase, Downend shut up shop and played to avoid an outright defeat.
But Dennet’s side did all they could to force the win.
He said: “Downend didn’t show a lot of intent.
“They wouldn’t have got close to 200 if we hadn’t been setting such attacking fields.”
Alex Senneck (2-48) and Jason Searle (3-70) led the charge and, had the hosts been sharper in the field, they might have taken all ten wickets.
Dennet said: “It was nice to see Jason pick up three wickets and Alex was impossible to get away, like every week.
“He was a bit unlucky, if we hadn’t dropped some catches he would have had a couple more wickets.
“Overall though I’m very happy with our start to the season.
“If we can keep picking up points like we are doing we should be competitive this season.
“We should have some extra options for this week’s game.”
