Cricket: Chippenham captain Steve Silk warned his players they need to up their game if they are going to compete in Premier Two following their six wicket defeat on Saturday.
A week after their stunning victory over Cheltenham, the Chippenham players were brought back to earth.
Silk was left unimpressed with his team’s fighting spirit.
He said: “It was a frustrating performance all round, when we came out after the interval we already looked like a beaten team.
“There was no buzz in the field which was disappointing.
“To put on such an awful display at our first home game of the season in front of such a good crowd was not good enough.”
In glorious batting conditions Chippenham were put in but failed to make the best of the conditions.
Ryan Higgins, batting at four, top scored with 35 and number eight Paul Clifford was the only other batsman to get into the twenties, scoring 27.
Silk said: “When we lost the toss we were very happy to be put in. The pitch was like a road and the conditions were perfect but we didn’t make the most of them.
“We were aiming for somewhere around 250 but instead of thinking about what we were doing we got out there and didn’t concentrate.”
After the break the West Indians reached their target inside 34 overs despite some good bowling from Clifton Folkes, who removed both openers and finished with figures of 2-33.
“Clifton bowled well for us but overall our bowling wasn’t up to the required standard.
“We need to realise we can’t just rock up on a Saturday and perform.
“I’m looking forward to a good training session this week,” said a frustrated Silk.
