Manager Andy Crabtree says he is not sure if he will still be in a job next season despite guiding Frome to second place in the Toolstation Premier Division.

The Robins are awaiting an upcoming league AGM to rubber-stamp their promotion but it is almost certain they will be playing in the Southern League South and West Division next season.

Crabtree has also guided them to the final of the Somerset Cup but he says his future has been the subject of rumours around the cub that he will not be kept on and wants the situation clarified.

“First of all I’ve got to be given confirmation they still want me here, what with all the rumours going around,” said Crabtree, when asked about what changes may be made in the summer.

“I’ve got a meeting with the committee next week where we’ll talk.

“I still enjoy it at Frome and want to stay on, I live in the area so why wouldn’t I?

“But we’ll sit down and discuss what’s next.”

Two strong victories in four days over the Bank Holiday weekend ensured Frome’s second spot.

On Friday, goals from Leigh Burke and Mark Salter gave Crabtree’s side a dominant 2-0 victory over champions Bitton The victory ensured the season came down to the wire with Frome needing a point at Dawlish Town on Monday, the only other side who could pip them to a promotion place, to have a chance of reaching the Southern League.

The prolific Salter again opened the scoring to make it 37 goals for the season. However the visitors’ nerves were on edge when Gary Fisher fired Dawlish level early in the second half.

But the always-dangerous Simeon Allison scored one of the goals of his life straight from the resulting kick-off to smash a long-range effort into the top corner and kick-start his side’s promotion party after a 2-1 win.

“We played nervously but showed character and dug in when things didn’t go right for us,” said Crabree.

“It’s been a hard season but all the work has been made worthwhile now.

“I always had confidence in the players but I don’t think they believed in themselves at times. It was all about getting them to realise their potential.”

l BRADFORD TOWN finished third in the Toolstation First Division after a 4-3 defeat at Elmore on the final day of the season.

Matt Minnis, two, and Toby Colbourne scored.

Rivals Westbury United took ninth place after only managing a 1-1 draw at Roman Glass St George on Saturday, with Matty Smith on target.
