Calne Town’s miserable end of season in the Premier League was completed with a 3–1 defeat at Willand on Saturday.
Calne went ahead after a good start in the 2nd minute when Gary Banks shot through the Willand keepers (Brian Cann) legs to put then 1 up.
Willand pressurised Calne but it wasn’t all one-way traffic. Calne had opportunities also.
In the 31st minute, a goalmouth scramble in the Calne 6 yard box saw defender Russell Lodge on the floor with his goal keeper led across him. Lodge was then adjudged to prevented the ball from going in with his hand and was dismissed with a red card.
Willand equalised from the following penalty.
11 minutes after the break, Willands David Steel put them 2 – 1 up and in the 72nd minute were 3 – 1 up through Danny Baily.
Calne did put on a flurry in the last 15 minutes when Armstrong and Banks had further chances but it wasn’t to be.
Calne will hope for better luck at Welton next Saturday in the Les Phillips Cup Final - 3.00pm
