Chippenham Redbacks maintained their 100 per cent record in the Aussie Rules UK Southern League with a commanding victory over Bournemouth.
Chippenham Redbacks 141, Bournemouth Demons 79
at Ringwood
The Chippenham Redbacks have a couple of speedy half forwards Aaron Gale and Tom Ingall, who’re proving a real handful for all opponents.
On Saturday in Ringwood, man of the match Gale scored 4 smartly taken goals and provided plenty of shepherds for the mesmeric Ingall who beat opponents at will to bag 7 goals for the game.
The first quarter started very evenly with plenty of heavy physical confrontations.
The Demons were first on the score sheet and it took some excellent catches from 6’6 Lee Tarn to stem the tide with a couple of goals This was followed by two for Ingall and one for Gale.
The Redbacks started the second quarter slowly with the Demons scoring three goals without reply. Lockie Kerr as usual pulling the strings for the South coast side. However, the defence of Nick Hardick, Johnny Hope-Smith and Tom Case put paid to any further complacency with some bone crunching tackles and shoulder barges. Hope-Smith and Hardick getting on the score sheet after bursts upfield.
In the 3rd quarter the Redbacks changed tactics including putting a tagger onto Kerr to reduce his effectiveness. The Demons started to wilt under intense pressure whenever they had the ball.
The Redbacks midfield distribution from Rob Kerr, Kent Kauppinen and Paul Conway really started to hurt the Demons by picking out key forwards with clever interplay. A number of good opportunities were wasted, but the tide had turned in favour of the Wiltshire side.
In the 4th quarter the Redbacks took almost complete control with fifteen scoring shots. The handballing and shepherding improved markedly from earlier in the game and 8 goals were scored to seal the fantastic win. Players at the Redbacks come from Corsham, Malmesbury, Calne and further afield to play. For more information on fixtures and training see www.chippenhamredbacksaussierules.co.uk for details.
