Tom Bosner suffered a broken ankle as tired Trowbridge Town suffered a heavy 6-1 home defeat to WInterbourne on the final day of their season.

Paul King’s young side were playing their eighth game in 21 days and fell behind early on to last season’s Hellenic Division One champions.

They were three down by half-time and conceded a further three after the break as the home side showed no signs of relenting in their attacking onslaught.

Paul Gittens and Joe Stradling combined well late in the game as the former grabbed a consolation goal.

“How Winterbourne are only seventh in the league is a mystery to everyone,” said King. “They have probably been the best team, with AFC Hardwicke, that we have played this season.

“We looked heavy legged and the amount of games over the last few weeks certainly took its toll as Winterbourne were far too strong.”

Bosner completed a miserable day for the visitors when he was stretchered off after falling awkwardly. He is expected to return to action in August.

“Our thanks go to all the Winterbourne officials and players for their concern and help at the game and the best wishes sent since,” said King.

“We at Trowbridge all wish him a speedy recovery.”

Meanwhile, Westbury United were unable to make it six wins in a row as they went down 2-1 at Hengrove Athletic at the weekend.

The home side were two goals to the good with less than half an hour on the clock after strikes from Gary Shorney and Ben Crewe.

Westbury improved in the second half and pulled one back through a Dan Kovacs header but they could not find an equaliser.
