Motorsport: Last weekend saw the second round of the N G motorcycle road race championships held at Pembrey in Wales.

Flying Novice jacket competitor Ross Willshire from Corsham was again in the thick of the action on his Refind Recruitment backed T Z 250cc Yamaha.

He competed in the ACU 250 GP National/NG Cup championship round.

Saturday's 250cc race was postponed until Sunday due to high winds and after the mornings warm up session Ross was fourth fastest and in confident mood for his two races during the afternoon.

The first 250cc race was held in cloudy but dry weather conditions with Ross again mixing it with the established 250cc competitors including former 250cc British GP wild card riders Alex Kenchington and Andrew Sawford.

At the end of the ten lap race Kenchinton took the race win with Willshire in fourth just behind third placed Rich Grinling.

Ross won the N G cup class and set the fastest lap for the race in the cup class in a time of 1 minute .60 seconds and a speed of 86.49mph.

In his second 14 lap 250cc race Ross again put on a stylish display of riding in cloudy but dry conditions and carrying very impressive corner speed he again finished fourth overall this time behind Andrew Sawford. Ross again won the N G cup class making it four wins from four starts so far this season. Ross's highlight of this race was not only setting the fastest lap for the N G class but setting the fastest lap of the overall race in a time of 59.88 seconds and a speed of 87.53 mph.

He is currently in fourth place in the ACU 250cc GP National Championship and leads the N G Cup championship by 28 points.

Team manager former multiple champion Darrell Higgins said afterwards the whole team was very pleased with these results and when you consider this was only his second race meeting on a 250cc machine are looking forward to the rest of the season.

Former 125cc Champion from Chippenham Freddie Nickless who this season has moved up to the 600cc class had his best result of the weekend in Saturday's sound of Thunder race. He finished in sixth place in the qualifiers race but finished in second place in the final in a time of 5 minutes 25.96 seconds.

He also set the fastest lap of the race in a time of 1 minute 02.87 seconds and a speed of 83.37 mph on his Chippenham motorcycles backed 675cc Triumph.

Freddie is currently in third place in the Sound of Thunder championship and is the son of Mike Nickless who is a former N G 600cc champion and back in the 1980s raced against Steve Parrish who is now a commentator for the BBC covering Moto GP.
