Wiltshire began their MCCA Trophy campaign with a huge 120 run win against Herefordshire at Devizes on Sunday.
Winning the toss and deciding to bat, Wiltshire started steadily with an opening stand of 37 between Tom Morton and Luke Stoughton before Stoughton was out for 22 and then Joe Breet was run out for 7 leaving Wiltshire 65 for 2 wickets.
Then followed a partnership of 162 between Tom Morton and Greg Lamb with Morton completing his maiden county century in 104 balls and when he was out for 126 in 124 balls, the home side were in a strong position at 227 with 8 overs remaining.
Michael Coles came in and he and Lamb put on 107 in these 8 overs with Coles scoring 70 in only 26 balls, including 7 sixes and 2 fours and Lamb finishing with 93 not out in 109 balls.
Wiltshire’s total was 334 for 3 wickets a score which beat their previous best in this competition by 34 runs. For Hereford, Stuart Wedge took 2 for 61.
With a target of over 6 runs per over, Herefordshire had a stiff task and lost wickets steadily with H Jones top scoring with 52 as they were all out in the 48th over for 214 leaving Wiltshire winners by 120 runs. Greg Lamb took 3 for 30 off his 10 overs and Richard Bedbrook took 2 for 29.
Wiltshire’s next match in this competition is away to Berkshire at Henley-on-Thames next Sunday, May 3rd and they have added Wes Durston who was unavailable against Hereford to the squad which played at Devizes.
