Champion mixed martial artist Scott Clist has claimed two titles with one stunning victory and says he will do all he can to hold onto both belts.

The Trowbridge-based fighter, who owns the Revolution Gym in the town, defeated middleweight champion Lewis Long at the Amateur Fight League event in Cardiff on April 12.

Clist, 31, normally competes at welterweight but agreed to move up a division to compete for both titles at a catch weight of 80kg.

The fight itself lasted under two minutes as the former British kickboxing title holder displayed his ground skills to submit the bigger Long with an armbar when pressed against the side of the cage.

“It was a very big win for me, the biggest of my career so far,” said Clist, who becomes the first man ever to hold belts at two weights simultaneously in the promotion.

“It was meant to be Lewis against Phil Faulkner the welterweight champ but he left the AFL and I was the next in the rankings.

“I didn’t get hit in the face once in the whole fight.”

Clist realises he may now need to focus on one division and relinquish a title.

However he has yet to make his mind up about where his future lies.

“Eventually I will probably have to give one up but maybe I could fight as often as possible and defend a different belt at alternate shows,” said Clist, who holds the record for the fastest KO in the AFL with a six second stoppage of Nigel Simmons A number of Revolution students including Andy Alty, Raph Bojanowski, Lukasz Witos, Phil Carter, Joe Anderson and Ashley Harvey were also victorious to round off a successful night for the gym.

“Just because you train like a fighter doesn’t mean you have to be one. We teach anyone that wants to learn,” said Clist, whose MMA record now stands at an impressive total of six wins, one draw and eight defeats.

“With self defence it is that it is better to have a skill that you never never have to use than never have a skill you may need someday.”

Former UFC fighter Ian Freeman will conduct a seminar at the Meadows Works complex this weekend.
