Cricket: Wiltshire regained the Marlborough Cup on Sunday at Thatcham when they beat Berkshire in an exciting match by 4 wickets with 1 ball remaining.
James Hibberd won the toss and asked Berkshire to bat and after a steady start against accurate bowling when they were 60 for 4 wickets were indebted to a partnership between Steve Naylor (65) and Michael Bates (32) as they were all out in the 50th over for 197.
For Wiltshire, Richard Bedbrook took 3 for 41, Ross Crick 3 for 58 and Alex Senneck bowled his 10 overs to take 2 for 14.
In reply Wiltshire started slowly losing their first 4 wickets for 57 and with 10 overs remaining were reduced to 123 for 6 when Alex Senneck joined Richard Bedbrook and these two with sensible aggressive batting took the score to 181 (with 17 needed to win) when the final over started. Alex then hit 2 sixes and a 4 in the first 4 balls and with a single off the 5th ball, Wiltshire gained an unlikely victory.
Bedbrook ended 57 not out and Senneck 44 not out off 35 balls. For Berkshire Craig Crowe took 3 for 31.
