It was another good week of generally settled, mild weather gave trout fishermen another good week of sport on the Bristol Water trout fisheries.
At Chew Valley the boat fishing has been consistently good from many areas especially the North Shore and Herons Green but these are now beginning to get a little harder and anglers have begun to search out other good places.
Moreton Point, Nunnery and Villice have been found to contain plenty of fish as well as the favourite points around the Island.
Bank fishermen have continued to find lots of fish from the North Shore and the dog leg in Herons Green, with Nunnery and Woodford now becoming more popular.
Most fish are still falling to nymphs – black buzzers, black and plain Diawl Bachs , Crunchers and bloodworms.
Best fish of the week was a fine 7 lb 4 oz rainbow taken by Paul Golding from a boat.
At Blagdon it was changeable with the weather. In overcast conditions the fishing has been excellent but on brighter days the fish have moved out into deeper water making bank fishing more difficult. The North Bank has seen most of the best action with limit bags coming from Pegs, Orchard Point, the seat and the Firs. Best tactics have been floating lines with Diawl Bachs and buzzers. The boars have found the fish easier to take in the brighter conditions, mainly by fishing deeper with the same tactics as the bank fishermen but the hot spots have been Green Lawn, Cheddar Water and along the North Shore. Jerry Pickford took a fine 7 lb 13 oz rainbow and Martin Bullock a 7 lb 3 rainbow both fishing from boats while Richard Evershed took a 7 lb 6 oz rainbow from the bank.
The Barrows fished well again from all the tanks. Best catches are falling to nymphs and lures fished well down as there are few fish moving around so far.
As the days lengthen and the water continues to warm there will be more fly activity especially during the evenings.
Chew produced a total catch last week of 899 fish averaging 2 lb 3 oz topped by a brown of 2 lb 2 oz and rainbow 7 lb 4 oz with 39 limit bags. At Blagdon 998 fish averaging 2 lb 6 oz were taken topped by a brown of 4 lb 1 oz and rainbow 7 lb 13 oz with 66 limit bags. The barrows yielded 284 fish averaging 1 lb 6 oz topped by a brown of 3 lb 8 oz and rainbow 3 lb 8 oz.

It was also another good week on the Wessex water trout fisheries. Clatworthy produced 385 fish with a rod average of 2.9. Fish are near the top at Rowes End and in the Bay. Dudderidge and the dam are good for boats.
Lures fished well down are working well, bloodworm patterns will work and also buzzers.
Andy Ryall took the best fish of the week with a 5 lb 0 oz rainbow. At Hawkridge 310 fish were taken. Alan Preece took a 3 lb 8 oz rainbow while Mike McColl took a limit bag weighing 13 lb 2 oz.
At Sutton Bingham it has been a good week on the top with 598 fish taken.
Floating lines with Pheasant Tails on the point and Olive Buzzers or Diawl Bach on the droppers caught a lot of fish.
All banks and the boats produced fish. Kevin Wilton took a 4 lb 8 oz rainbow while Harry Copper took a limit bag weighing 14 lb 14 oz.
