Frome bounced back from a shock loss on Good Friday with a composed victory over Calne on Wednesday evening.

After a lifeless first half, Simeon Allison struck with 15 minutes left in the contest to keep Andy Crabtree’s men in the hunt for promotion after a 3-0 defeat at lowly Radstock on Good Friday.

“I thought we were very deserved winners,” Crabtree said.

“We created four or five good chances. It would have been an injustice if we hadn't won the game but it keeps us up there and in the mix.

“I can't ask for any more than that from the players, they’ve done well. Calne are a good side and we've responded well from the loss to Radstock.”

A tired-looking home side showed the effects of being asked to play their third game in five days and struggled to create chances throughout the game.

The visitors left it until the second period to start playing but Allison could have had a hat-trick if not for Calne stopper Jason Grubb while Mark Salter also went close on two occasions.

Calne’s veteran player/manager Robbie Lardner replaced the injured Ben Fitch and had a golden chance to equalise in injury time but blasted his volley over the bar.

“I could have done with scuffing it a bit,” he joked.

“But my legs were so tired it was just a matter of trying to put something on the ball.

“It wasn't a very good game, Frome weren’t very much better, it was a typical end of season game.

"I’m a bit disappointed we didn’t snatch a point but they had a couple of good chances and took their goal well.

WIt was always going to be a case of who scored first was going to win.”
