Saturdays' match was the rearranged fixture of the game when referee Hadden Graham was taken ill and the match abandoned.
As a pre curser to the match, a buffet lunch was held for the Vice Presidents of the Club where the guest of honour was the now recovered Mr Graham who was presented with a Westbury shirt signed by the players and club officials.
Swanage and Wareham kicked off and almost immediately forced Westbury to kick to touch inside their own 22 metres. From the resulting lineout Swans moved the ball wide and set up a ruck to the right of Westbury's posts, they then flooded the blind side with players, Westbury were slow to react allowing an easy score.
The conversion was missed. From the restart Westbury set up a series of attacks and only good Swans defence kept them from scoring a try, but full back Paul Jones dropped a goal in front of the posts.
Westbury unfortunately had a bad 15 minutes where they allowed the visitors to score 3 soft tries, 2 of which were down to poor defending and missed tackles, the third was from a speculative pass intercepted by the Swans winger who out ran the Westbury defence to score. 2 of the tries were converted.
To their credit, the home side lifted their efforts and with minutes to go were camped inside the Swans half, a good attack was set up, but unfortunately a Westbury player knocked the ball on just short of the line.
With time running out a scrum was awarded to the visitors who only had to clear to touch for the half to end.
Their No 8 picked up the ball but was caught by scrum half, Adam Turner, and Westbury flanker Matt Church who wrestled the ball away, and was driven over the line to touch down.
Simon Higgins added the conversion. 24 - 10 at half time and Westbury clawing their way back into the match.
From the start of the second half Westbury again forced the pace and with the front row of Paul Adams, Darren Fuller and Gareth Done working manfully in the scrums the Swanage & Wareham pack was starting to creak and go backwards and from one such scrum No 8, Gareth Vaughan, picked up and charged for the line, he was held in the tackle but managed to off load to Adam Turner who jinked his way past the defence to score. Higgins again converting.
With just a converted try between the two sides, both teams now concentrated all of their efforts to winning the match and the spectators were entertained with an excellent game of rugby.
Westbury were desperately unlucky not to score on 2 occasions. Swanage & Wareham held on to their lead, to make it 17 - 24 at full time.
Perhaps if the home side had not lost concentration and allowed a couple of soft tries to be scored in the first half the result may have been different, but Westbury certainly have improved overall.
Three players stood out, Adams, Fuller and replacement flanker Rich Hudd who made a huge impact when he came on.
