This Bath Combination Quarter Final win was Trowbridge’s first win against the Bath team in the memory of its present membership.
And while the Walcot team is a shadow of its team only a few years ago the result confirms the progress Trowbridge have made this season and over the last three years.
Then only a change in relegation rules prevented the Green Lane side from falling to Dorset & Wilts 1 where their 2nd team will be playing next season.
The margin of victory also suggests that the difference in standard between the West and East divisions of South West 2 is not as much as some might believe.
The teams were evenly matched early on though territorially Trowbridge had the edge and it was midway through the first half before the first score.
But the Trowbridge backs then came into action and two tries were scored in quick succession by Ashley Chalk scoring his 17th try of the season and flanker Michael Johnstone.
Both tries came as a result of the scorer’s support of excellent breaks from full back Chris McLeod.
Lloyd Davis converted the second try and Ben Roberts replied for Walcot with a long range penalty to complete the first half scoring.
After the interval both sides had opportunities but generally defences were on top.
The forwards on the whole were evenly matched but the Walcot pack exerted some pressure in the early part of the second half but they did not have the cutting edge to break the home defence and as the half wore on Trowbridge came back on to the attack.
Some opportunities were missed but they scored tries from Lloyd Davis who took advantage of a handling error and skipper Adam Sullivan who forced his way over late in the game. Davis converted both tries to complete the scoring.
Trowbridge are joined in the semi finals by Frome who were given a bye by Stothert & Pitt, Midsomer Norton who beat Corsham and the winners of the Oldfield v Chippenham match yet to be played.
