Trowbridge Amateur Swimming Clubs youth and senior swimmers finished off the 2009 Wiltshire County Championships campaign in style last weekend with some impressive performances at the Link Centre.

Last Saturday saw the close of the Youth County Champs at the link Swindon.

With TASC out in force and medals flowing there were impressive swims with Championship winners going to John wood in both the 100m and 200m freestyle and Rachel Williams setting a new county and Junior Championship record in the 100m back and also took Gold in 200m back.

Carl Greenan won silver in the open championship in 400m free, but also took gold 200m free, 400m IM, silver in 100m back and bronze in 100m fly, 200m back and 50m free, in his age group (16yrs).

Gold went to Katie Pugh in the junior Championship 50m Fly in a time of 31.46, with Katie finishing 3rd overall in the open championship in that event.

She also picked up medals in the 50m free and team mate Georgina Lomas winning silver in the open competition.

In the 100m Breaststroke, Steffie Clutterbuck took gold in the junior championship with team mate Georgie Barnes finishing just behind in silver place.

Steffie also won Gold in the 200m free, silver in the 100m /200m back 400m free and 200IM.

Charlie Barnes won gold in the open Championship in the 100m Breast in a time of 1.11.46.

Chris Weston won bronze in the junior championship boys in the 100m fly/50m fly/400IM. There were also fantastic swims by Nicole Esdaile picking up 4th in the junior comp in the 100m breast and 5th in the 50m breast.

Declan O’Neill although not finishing in the top three of the Junior Championship in the 50m Breast- swam a well deserved 4th – with superb swimming.

Outside of the junior and open championship there were medals falling to TASC swimmers with Rachel Hampshire wining silver ( in the 17/18yr age group) in both the 50m breast and just behind team mate Charlie Barnes, in the 100m breast.

Relays: The women’s Senior 4x 50m medley team took gold setting a new Championship Best time of 2.01.76 – an impressive 6 seconds in front of 2nd place team from Swindon Dolphins. The swimming quartet comprised of Rachel Williams, Georgie Barnes, Hayley Towner and Katie Pugh.

The Girls junior medley relay team was on fire in the 4 x 100m free relay winning gold and top place in a time of 2.08.15.- the quartet being Katie Pugh, Rachel Williams , Emma Hill and Paige Matthews.

The boys Junior 4x 100m free team won silver just behind Swindon Dolphins, with its team comprising of Chris Weston, Declan O’Neill, Jack Griggs and Kieran Hill.

The 9 to 14 year old boys and 9 to 13 year old girls (BAGCATS) started their competition on the Sunday. The youngsters picked up where the youths and seniors left off, winning a total of 4 gold medals10 silver and 3 bronze on the first day. Personal best times were crashing and district qualifying times were mounting.

In the 9 yr age group Sophie Sutton (swimming her first County Champs) was in awesome form winning Gold in the 50m backstroke and 200m IM. Shannon Crocker (again swimming in her first county competition) finished in the top 12 in the 50m back.

Thomas Mcgrath (another swimmer swimming in his first county competition) picked up silver in the boys 50m Backstroke in a time of 42.11.

In the 10 yr age group Charlotte Stubbs won Silver in the 50 m Backstroke, 200IM and 200m Fly- achieving District qualifying times in the 200im and 200 fly- Fantastic swimming Charlotte .

Chloe Davies just missed her 200m IM District qualifying time after coping and having to swim with no goggles as they had come off on the last 50 meters.

She just missed bronze in both the 50m back and 200m Fly” Unlucky Chloe- go for it again at Weston Open Meet.”

Continuing the form with superb swimming was James Reed winning Gold in the 200m IM, 50m Back and silver in the 200m fly.

James also obtained his District qualifying time in the 200IM. Team mate Will Crudgington and Daniel Shepperd ( again 2 swimmers competing in their first county competition) finishing in the top 8 of the 50m Back and Will 4th in the 200m IM.

Daniel Letchford (another TASC swimmer swimming in his first county champs) finished in 12th position on the 100m Free.

11 yr old age Group- Congratulations to both Ricky Griggs and Andrew Stevenson for finishing in the top 8 in the 200 IM and top 12 in the 50 m back.

12 yr Old age group- Emma Davies Won gold in the 50m Backstroke, Silver in the 200m fly (achieving her District qualifying time) and bronze in the 200 IM just being touched out from silver by Charlotte Pitts from Swindon Dolphins.

Continuing the medal collection, team mate Emily Clutterbuck won silver in the 50m back – making it TASC 1-2 in that event and she again also obtained her District qualifying time in the 200IM.

Team mates Jordan Edwards, Sam Clarke, Luke Hibberd and Daniel Letchford were also swimming in this age group.

With Jordan swimming out of his skin winning more medals for TASC with Silver in the 200m IM (District Qualifying time) and 100m Breast, bronze in 100m Free( again another district qualify time) and Bronze in 200m Fly.

With both Sam and Luke finishing in the top 6 and Daniel top 12 in the 100m free.

Sam and Luke again, finishing in the top 7 for the 200IM.

13 yr old age group- Team mates Emma Hill, Paige Matthews and Amelia Griffin all swimming in this age group.

TASC again won 1-2 with Paige winning Gold and Emma Silver in the 200m Fly.

Role reversed with Emma winning silver in the 200Im and Paige winning bronze (again both girls obtaining their District qualifying times).

Completing the tally Emma won bronze in the 100m Free, closely followed but just out of medal position in 4th and 5th by Amelia and Paige.

More medals with David Williams winning silver in the 50m back and 200IM ( another District qualifying swim).

Team mate Brendon O’Neill was struggling with an elbow injury, but despite this swam on finishing within the top 10 in all events. Team mate David Vick swam well finishing in 5th position on the 100m Breast.

14 yr old Boys- In a tough age group Kieran Hill continued the medal hall winning bronze in the 200 fly. Aaron Moore won Bronze in the 100 breast and also obtained his District qualifying time.

Kieran, Aaron with team mate Sam Smith finished all within the top 12 in all other events.

So with ten events through, the BAGCAT tables are looking good in favour of TASC swimmers .

Currently in top positions are Charlotte Stubbs (1st-10 years) James Reed ( 1st- 10yr) Emma Davies (1st - 12 years), Paige Matthews (1st - 13 years) Sophie Sutton (2nd - 9 years), Emma Hill ( 2nd -13 years),Jordan Edwards ( 3rd-12 years).

However, there’s a lot more swimming to do and everything to swim for!!

Relays: Both the girls and boys Under 13yr teams swam impressive relays in both 4x100m freestyle and 4x 100m IM just being piped from gold by Swindon Dolphins in all 4 relays.
