Rock-bottom Devizes' relegation fears deepened as they were put to the sword by Toolstation Premier Division leaders Bitton.

Town enjoyed plenty of possession in the first half but they still found themselves 3-0 down at half-time thanks to some clinical finishing from the visitors.

Former QPR, Reading and Swindon Town midfielder Michael Meaker, now 37, netted two of the goals in a man-of-the-match display for Bitton.

Devizes held their own after the break but lacked a cutting edge in the final third, before a stunning long range individual effort wrapped up the win for Bitton five minutes from the end.

Devizes manager Shaun Moffat said: "We went 3-0 down in the first half but I don't know how because we saw plenty of the ball and played some good football.

"I suppose they just showed their quality in their finishing and the boy Meaker was excellent, you could tell he used to be a pro.

"Their last goal was probably the best goal you will see this season and their lad cut in from the flank and belted it in.

"Obviously losing 4-0 doesn't look good but a few of their players said to me afterwards the scoreline flattered them.

"But we'll have to dust ourselves off and prepare for our home game with Willand next Saturday."
