Rock-bottom Devizes take on the best side in their league this Saturday, and have found yet another novel way to lose players.

Injuries and suspensions have already robbed them of numerous players this season and now the international credit crunch is having a baring on their team selection for the Bitton clash.

“This economic climate isn't helping,” said manager Shaun Moffat.

“We've got a couple of builders in the side and they can't afford to turn down work at the moment.

“Especially after the bad winter they've had, if they get offered £100 for a Saturday's work they will choose that rather than play for Devizes.

“We aren't able to pay players either at the moment so we can't compete financially.”

“It's good to have the young players in the side but you also need a mix of experience heads alongside them.”

The Western League are currently inspecting all Premier Division stadia and clubs found to have slipped from the required standard could be thrown into the relegation race.

“That could throw some teams in the dogfight,” said Moffat.

“Also clubs like Corsham and Radstock are not safe yet so it's all to play for.”
