Trowbridge middleweight Nick Blackwell bid farewell the amateur ranks in style with victory at a sold out boxing event at Trowbridge Civic Hall on Saturday night.

Our first EBF semi professional bout was a welterweight bout between Liam Richards (who is also going professional this year) from Trowbridge (boxing out of the contender gym) against Swindons Mike Crossley.

After measuring his opponent up then delivering a left jab to the body followed by a faint right and a left hook to the chin and 30 seconds into the first round Liam Richards won by KOing Mike Crossley. Liam Richards will now turnover to the professional scene.

The second EBF bout was a welterweight eliminator between two Trowbridge boxers - Dan Carr and Jeremiah Leat. For three rounds the two boxers battled it out with non-stop action from the beginning to the end. A fantastic bout that ended in a draw.

The third bout saw the turn of the heavyweights, from Trowbridge John Jennings verses Marlborough's David Nash. An exciting fight with the big lads throwing the big bombs.

An even first round followed by John Jennings stepping up the pace to take the 2nd and 3rd rounds of fight. Both lads gave everything they had where it got to the point where neither one could hold up their hands. The win went to Trowbridge's John Jennings.

To the main event six rounds of boxing between the title holder Nick Blackwell and the challenger Stewart Tordoff from Birmingham.

The first round saw Nick Blackwell sit back measuring up his opponent and comfortable picking him off with fast combinations.

The second round Stewart Tordoff came out strong only to be met by Blackwell's hand speed and devasting combinations which put Tordoff down on to the canvas.

Round three and Blackwell closes up the range, cornering Tordoff and going in with the big shots. Again Blackwell sends Tordoff down to the canvas twice in the 3rd round. Sheer willpower and determination gets Tordoff up and ready to fight on after the second standing eight count.

In the fourth round Blackwell went in for the big finish dominating Stewart Tordoff for the whole round until Blackwell unleashed a feroisous striaght right hand that finish Tordoff for the last time.

No doubt about it Stewart Tordoff fought with his heart but unfortunately he stepped up to challenge one of the most exciting, up and coming boxers in the southwest.

"With Nick Blackwell now turning over to the professional ranks we expect him to be a future British champion at the age of 20," said promoter Mark Kent.

"This lad will put Trowbridge on the map with professional boxing."
