Ian Holloway said that he is more excited about Swindon Town’s home clash with Morecambe than he has been for any game in his career.
Swindon play their first league match at home under the new manager and welcome League Two’s bottom club Morecambe to The Nigel Eady County Ground as they look to move away from the relegation zone.
Holloway began his spell in charge with back-to-back cup wins against Colchester United and Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s but failed to win any of his first two league games on the road at Milton Keynes Dons and Accrington Stanley.
As he nears his 1000th game in management, Holloway said that he has never been more excited for a game after having had another full week to develop the team following their 2-2 draw at The Wham Stadium last week.
He said: “We have no more injuries so I have a bit of a selection problem, which I have already solved, and they are going to know today what we are doing.
“I am looking forward to it, this is the most excited I think I have ever been before any game because this is a wonderful chance for us to deal with some issues.
“We will either be in exactly the same place if we draw, much worse off if we lose, but we could be feeling an awful lot better about ourselves.
“It is about what we do on Saturday and I can’t wait to see the reaction to what we have said and what we have done.
“We need to sort ourselves out without the ball, we are very good with it and sometimes we are very good without it and sometimes we are thinking ‘What’s that?’
“Lots of things have been said and lots of words are out there, so hopefully they are very visual, they will get it, and they will take it on.
“It is looking good out there [on the training ground] but they need to do it in the heat of battle.”
Holloway said that what he has seen from the players has given him a lot of confidence and wants the fans to be able to help bring that out in matches.
He said: “I am really looking forward to it and I need the fans to feel that way as well and come along.
“We haven’t given them much to cheer about at home but I feel like I see an upturn with how we have finished the last few home games particularly.
“If we can start that way and start building some confidence then I think that the fans would like what we are trying to do at the moment.
“We ended that game on Saturday well on top against a really good team.
“We need to put it all together and what a great opportunity to have against Morecambe, I wish we had a few more weeks but this one is here and I can’t wait to see what they do.”
