Swindon Town defender Jeff King is set to depart the Wiltshire club and drop a division to join National League York City.

Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider broke the news but has not confirmed whether the deal is a temporary loan move, or a permanent transfer.

The 28-year-old joined the Robins in the summer on a free transfer from fifth division champions Chesterfield after impressing on trial and made eight appearances in League Two following his move.

He was a consistent starter under Mark Kennedy until he took a period off due to personal reasons and made one appearance since, which was in the 1-1 draw away at Tranmere Rovers.

The right back registered one goal contribution and that was an assist in the Carabao Cup loss to League One Crawley Town.

The Minstermen let defender Thierry Latty-Fairweather depart last month on loan to Maidenhead and have now made the choice to sign King for more depth.

His new side sit top of the table with 38 points and just the one loss as they look to return to the fourth division for the first time since 2016.
