Swindon Town and Ian Holloway could be in potential bother from the FA over a breach of agent rules in the appointment of the former Blackpool boss.
Following an exclusive by Matt Hughes in The Sun, it was revealed that there could be a breach of FA agent regulations over how the appointment came about.
Holloway was appointed by Swindon last week and officially began work on Monday, taking charge of his first game against Colchester United in the FA Cup on Saturday.
However, the issue comes from when he said in an interview that he had not signed with the agent who handled the deal.
Speaking to club media last week, Holloway said: “It was only late last night that I arranged to meet an agent and before you know it I am here, which is completely mental to me but I am absolutely delighted.
“I arranged to meet an agent, who I haven’t signed anything with yet, because I wanted to get back on because I have missed the every day of being involved with a club.
“I spoke to my friend Gary Penrice who knows a bloke and I arranged to meet him and he wasn’t on his own and he said ‘He would like to meet you.’
“I wrote an article a couple of weeks ago saying that I missed the game and would love to do it and I think it is an agent having an agent who knows people and situations.
“If it wasn’t for that fella then I don’t know where I would be, I would still be back home I think.”
The issue with this version of events is that it may be in breach of the FA’s Football Agent Regulations 2024/25 Rule 4.1, which states that agents may only perform services after having an agreement with the player, club, or coach involved.
The rules state: “An FA Registered Football Agent may only perform Football Agent Services for a Player, Coach or Club after having entered into a Representation Agreement with that Player, Coach or Club.”
The FA did not pass comment on the original story and when contacted by the Swindon Advertiser also had no statement or update to provide on whether an investigation into the issue was taking place.
When approached for comment on the story, Swindon responded: “The Club is aware of the article which has appeared and will continue to assist the FA with their inquiries during this time.”
