Former Premier League manager Ian Holloway is reportedly the front-runner to take over the vacant manager’s job at Swindon Town.

Following just two victories in 13 League Two games to start the season and with Town sat 90th of the 92 clubs in the EFL, Swindon decided to move on from Mark Kennedy as their head coach.

The statement from the club announcing his departure said: “A further update on the club's new head coach will be provided at the earliest opportunity.”

With Swindon looking to move quicker in appointing a replacement this time, having waited 136 days after parting company with Michael Flynn to hire Kennedy, they seem to have landed on their target.

Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider has reported that the former Blackpool and Plymouth Argyle manager Ian Holloway is the leading contender to take over.

The 61-year-old Bristolian has been out of work since 2020, when he left Grimsby Town, but has managed 989 games across a 24-year managerial career and has an overall win percentage of 35.79.

Holloway memorably took both Blackpool and Crystal Palace into the Premier League after wins in the playoffs.

His last job was with Grimsby, leaving in December 2020 and the club went on to be relegated at the end of that season.
