Swindon Town fans across the board felt that the club parting company with Mark Kennedy after 13 games was the right decision although larger problems remain.
Kennedy only arrived at The Nigel Eady County Ground at the end of May, but two wins from 13 League Two matches and three across all competitions has led to his departure following Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat at Salford City.
Many fans had been calling for change after that match and Swindon have duly obliged, confirming his departure on Friday morning.
The Adver put out for fans on X, Facebook, and the comments section to review the decision and whether it was the right time for a switch-up in the dugout.
The vast majority of respondents believed that it was the right decision, with Swindon sat 22nd in the division, action needed to be taken.
Paul Williams said on X: “Yes [it was the right time]. It never really clicked for him at Town. We are a club in crisis and the fans need a manager that can connect to the fans and bring a playing style to encourage us, because let’s face it, not much else is these days.”
Louis Cassius in the Adver comments added: “This was coming. Now if the board have their ducks in a row, they will already have a shortlist and have contacted potential candidates. We need a tried and tested Manager/Head Coach. Not the cheap option. Spend money and recruit a real winner, to take this once great Club forward.”
Strangelands said: “I do feel somewhat sorry for Kennedy but he was his own worst enemy. He deserved to get sacked for that Barrow game alone. In over his head. I Can't see him getting an EFL job again with now three failures on his CV.”
However, Mike Brogden had a counter point of view in the Adver comments: “I can never understand why it is the manager of any football team who becomes the fall guy when the only people who can determine the outcome of any game are the players on the pitch. Not forgetting that they are paid to do a job and if in any other business, it would be them who got the sack and not their manager.”
As for the next incumbent of the hot seat in Swindon, there were early shouts for Gary Rowett, Paul Caddis, and Ian Holloway.
