Salford City boss Karl Robinson said it would have been “criminal” had his side not taken all three points after their 2-1 victory over Swindon Town.

Swindon lost their second game in four days as Kelly N’Mai and Jon Taylor struck at The Peninsular Stadium either side of Harry Smith netting for Town to send them down to 22nd in the table.

Speaking to club media after the game, Robinson said that he believed his side were in total control of the match and it would have been an injustice were they not to have come away with three points.

He said: “I thought we were excellent for large parts of that game and I felt the longer the game went on the better we were becoming.

“At the start of the second half, we fell off a bit, although I still believe the goal was offside, but we got better and we were very competent for a large part of that.

“That is the best we have played and I thought today we could have gone on and scored multiple goals but it wasn’t to be.

“But we still have to be better than we were, I thought we deserved three points at the weekend and we certainly deserved three points today.

“I was really happy with the chances that we created, not just the goal, I thought there were three or four chances in our favour where we could have got further ahead. We just looked like a wave of red.

"But I am sure if you were watching as a big Salford fan or an owner, you would be thinking that with the way our luck has gone this season, it would have been criminal if we were to concede really late on.”

The duel between the two talented youngsters of N’Mai and Joel McGregor was one of the more exciting on the pitch, with the pair causing each other issues in both directions but Robinson did not believe it was a contest.

He said “[It was a good tussle between those two, wasn’t it?] Not really, he [N’Mai] was the best player on the pitch.

“It wasn’t a good tussle because I thought Kelly N’Mai was the best player on the pitch by a mile, I respect what you are saying but he was the best player on the pitch and has been our best player since the start of the season.”
