With the international break in full force, League Two was under the spotlight with just two games out of 12 postponed.

From late drama and boardroom shake-ups, what is happening in England’s fourth division?

Andy Cook is cementing his spot as the best forward in the league

With seven goals in 11 games, Andy Cook is continuing his fine form and is aging like fine wine. The Bradford striker has scored 52 goals across the last three seasons and shows no signs of slowing down. A modern-day fox in the box, the former Mansfield striker is pushing the Bantams up the table, with only Erling Haaland scoring more than him in the top four tiers this season.

Nicky Butt departs Salford City

Salford City’s CEO Nicky Butt has stepped down from his role with immediate effect. Having replaced Gary Neville in 2022, he will remain as an active shareholder and Board Director but ‘cannot dedicate the time required to continue as a CEO’. The treble winner has confirmed his desires to get back into the coaching side of football after admitting that he has received ‘several exciting opportunities’ which would help him return his focus onto coaching. The Ammies’ current Finance Director, Jonathan Jackson will step into the role of interim CEO.

Late drama in Derbyshire

A late David McGoldrick penalty made it three games without a win for Chesterfield as they drew 2-2 with Notts County on the weekend. Both the Spireites and the Magpies are expected to be around the play-off places come the end of the season and after McGoldrick’s effort from the spot was saved by Max Thompson, he tapped in the rebound to help keep Stuart Maynard’s team in the top three.

Grimsby sneaking up the table

Having been involved in a relegation battle last season, David Artell was appointed with the role of keeping them up, and he succeeded as they finished seven points clear of the drop. Following a disappointing last campaign, many had Grimsby placed in the lower mid-table places or even possibly relegation candidates, but they are quietly sneaking up the table. Signings such as Jordan Davies and Luca Barrington have showed signs of intent as the Mariners sit one point off the automatic promotion places.

Wimbledon put pitch issues behind them to smash Carlisle:

AFC Wimbledon played their first game at the Cherry Red Records stadium for the first time since the pitch was damaged due to flooding. Over £100,000 was raised to help the Wombles and they were back with a bang last weekend, putting four past Carlisle. A Matty Stevens hat-trick and an own goal from Cameron Harper added to Mike Williamson’s poor start as United boss as they now sit rock bottom of League Two.
