Kabongo Tshimanga is set to get back in training this week for Swindon Town after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury.

The striker was forced off during the first half of Swindon’s 0-0 draw with Harrogate Town, with what was said to be a minor hamstring tear.

Mark Kennedy said after the game that whilst he had not received a full diagnosis on Tshimanga, the injury was not believed to be as bad as it could have been, with it being a small tear rather than a larger one which could have seen him sidelined for a significant period of time.

In his absence, Swindon have won back-to-back victories against Bristol Rovers in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy and then followed that up with a win at Cheltenham Town in League Two.

The injury to Tshimanga created an issue for Swindon, with a minor injury crisis among the strikers as a combination of suspension, a viral infection and tonsillitis have kept Harry Smith out of commission since the away trip to Barrow AFC and Aaron Drinan has also been absent since Harrogate due to an impact injury causing him distress.

This has meant that Paul Glatzel, who scored twice against Rovers, started both games last week, alongside Danny Butterworth at The EV Charging Points Stadium and Botan Ameen in the cup, with the Iraq Under-19 international making both his first senior and league appearance last week.

These problems may be about to be abated as following victory over Cheltenham, Kennedy gave an update on Tshimanga.

He said: “He was out on the grass on Saturday with Jackson [Bradley, physio], so at some point he should be back in full training next week.”

Drinan did attempt to train twice late last week but couldn’t get through the pain and Smith is still recovering after losing more than a stone in weight due to illness.

Ameen has impressed in both of his appearances for the first team, scoring in the BSM Trophy, but Kennedy did say that it was not ideal that he had to be included in the senior squad.

He said: “We have been so unlucky with injuries this year, it has really hampered us, we were running with one striker today.

“We are bringing a young kid on in Botan, it is great to have him, I am delighted he played, and I thought he was excellent, but he should be playing with the youth team today.”
