Mark Kennedy and Botan Ameen were full of excitement after Swindon Town dispatched with Bristol Rovers 4-0 in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
Needing to avoid defeat to keep their chances of progression alive, Swindon served up a first-half clinic as they put the League One side to the sword.
With both sides making plenty of changes, Paul Glatzel bagged a brace after just 12 minutes with two fine finishes prior to Joel McGregor volleying in a wonderful strike from the edge of the box, and Ameen stealing in at the near post to head home on his debut.
After the match, Kennedy said that getting a win, no matter the competition, was important for breeding confidence into the squad, even though the group had always maintained their belief through the start of the season.
The head coach also answered questions about Sean McGurk after he made his first start since Kennedy's arrival and about the continued absence of Harry Smith.
Having made his first senior start, Ameen said that it had eclipsed all of his previous achievements in his fledgling career and was now excited to try and break into a squad for a league game and make his mark there.
