Danny Butterworth said it could be a good time for Swindon Town to play Carlisle United after they brought in a new head coach.

The 25-year-old joined Swindon on a two-year deal from Carlisle United on the final day of the transfer window and has impressed so far, scoring his first goal in the dying seconds at Barrow AFC and being a big part of the exciting display against Newport County.

Butterworth comes up against his old club very soon after departing them but thinks the late arrival of Mike Williamson could help Town.

He said: “It is going to be nice [to play them] but I am not going to get caught up in all of that, I am here now and I need to win the game of football with Swindon. That is what is important.

“I don’t think Carlisle got the best of me, nowhere near, I hit a bit of form last year, scored a few goals, and I was playing but this year it didn’t happen.

“They didn’t see the best of me but I appreciated the time there and the fans were good, so there is no bad blood against them.

“They will probably need a week or so of adapting to the new manager, so it is probably a good time to play them.”

Butterworth said that he was already seeing improvements in his game since joining Swindon now that he felt he had the full support of Mark Kennedy.

He said: “I feel like I have put in a decent performance so far, it was good to get a goal early on and now just kick on and try and score plenty more.

“You know when you are playing well because you know when things are coming off for you, your passing, your striking of the ball, and your shooting – you need to add numbers to your game but you know when you have played well.

“I have been here about two weeks now and I have already noticed a difference in the little things positionally, knowing where to be off the ball, and not switching off like I probably did in the past.

“I feel like they have really helped me and it has only been two weeks, so who knows what could happen.

“On the training pitches, we [Kennedy and Butterworth] have one-on-one chats and he is always coaching me and I didn’t have that in the past so it is good to have him.”
