Mark Kennedy said that Swindon Town dominated from start to finish in the “most bizarre game ever” during their 1-1 draw at Barrow AFC.

Ged Garner scored a delightful chip to send Barrow ahead in the first half before Paul Farman saw red for stopping a certain goal with his hand outside the box to flip things on their head.

Without a recognised goalkeeper, Rory Feely went in between the sticks for Barrow before Harry Smith was sent off for Swindon after the break but Danny Butterworth saved it for Town in the dying moments.

Kennedy said that he was pleased with the patience of Swindon as they chased the game following the red card before eventually getting the goal.

He said: “That was probably the most bizarre game I have ever been involved in.

“We have had to make two substitutions in the first half, we have conceded a goal from a poor decision from one of our players but a ridiculous finish, we had a ball going into the back of the net but then a hits a hand and goes over the bar, and then we get a man sent off ourself.

“It was a really bizarre game but I thought we dominated it from start to finish, we were down to ten men for 35 minutes in the second half and had 78 per cent possession. There were a lot of positives.”

Kennedy added that he was pleased that his side did not go overboard once Farman was sent off and get too shot happy in chasing a path back into the game.

He said: “There is huge credit to the lads for their patience because I don’t know if the lads were fully aware when the guy got sent off that they didn’t have a ‘keeper on the bench.

“I was pleased that we didn’t just start shooting from everywhere, shooting from ridiculous angles and making poor decisions because I think our patience showed off in the end.

“When you have seen the pitch, the whole centre of the pitch is congested.

“Football is very simple: you play through people, around people, or over people – there is no other way to play and if you can tell me there is then I will give you as much money as you want.

“You could not play through people today because it was so congested and you can’t play over them because they are so big, so you can only play around them.

“That is getting crosses in the box and scoring from there: the ‘keeper has pulled off an amazing save from [Jeff] King’s free kick, I thought we worked patiently to get Butt’s[worth] shots off with double switches and create [George] Cox’s crossing.

“Although the goal came from outside the box, it was always going to come from crosses and I thought we were very unlucky in that regard with Cox, [Paul] Glatz[el], and Kabs [Kabongo Tshimanga] had a good chance.

“I was really pleased with out patience today especially because there was a guy in goal who is an outfield player.”
