Former Swindon Town loanee Dawson Devoy has made a surprise move back to Bohemian FC on a permanent deal from Milton Keynes Dons.

Devoy spent the second half of last season at Swindon, scoring three goals after joining in January as Town looked to replace Dan Kemp who had been recalled by the Buckinghamshire club.

Speaking on his future, Devoy said that he was prioritising game time coming into this season, and has now completed his multi-year deal to re-join Bohemians, the club where he began his career and shone, leading to his move to Milton Keynes in the first place.

The midfielder had impressed Town, with then-interim head coach Gavin Gunning saying that he could be someone the club would look at getting back, however, he will instead be back playing in his homeland.

Speaking in April, Gunning said: “100 per cent [I think he could be here next season]. I think that he loves it here and he loves the work that we are doing.

“We have been trying to improve him and I think you can see the improvements in his game since he has come here.

“When he first arrived he played sideways, he would move, and he would try a diag[onal through ball].

“But now he is getting beyond the striker and he looks like a real threat.

“We haven’t really had a number six in the squad, Nnamdi [Ofoborh] has come in in the last few games and he has taken that, but we have been trying to throw everybody into that hole and see if anybody could fill it.

“When Dawson first came in I thought he was one of our best players, if not the best player because he was playing higher.

“But with Sads [Saidou Khan] getting injured, he had to play the deeper one and that hindered his effect going forward, which you could see at the weekend [against AFC Wimbledon] when he scored two goals.”

In June, Jamie Russell said to the Swindon Advertiser that Town still retained an interest in Devoy, although no approach ended up coming about ahead of him moving back to Bohemians.

He said: “Within the midfield, we are looking at two different types of midfield at the minute, and a player like Dawson Devoy who is very technically good and competent at getting forward is definitely going to be of interest to the club.”
