New Swindon Town signing Grant Hall said he was looking to gain his first promotion after dropping down to join from Rotherham United.

Hall became Swindon’s eighth signing of the summer when he returned to the club, having gained his first run of games in senior football at Town whilst on loan from Tottenham Hotspur 11 years ago, and returns having been a Championship regular since.

Hall said that having played so much in the second tier, he came to Swindon in search of adding that elusive first promotion to his CV.

Speaking to club media, he said: “I hope that I can play a big role [in the squad], I am old enough being 32 – I am not too old – but I am hoping that I can bring a lot of experience to the team and help the younger boys and even the older lads, try and push them.

“I had a conversation with Mark Kennedy before I signed and he was very keen for me to come, it was a really good conversation and he sold the aspirations of the club, he said Swindon want to be challenging at the top end of the table and hopefully get promoted.

“That is something that I personally haven’t got on my CV yet and is something that I would love to add.

“When you look back on your career, you want those successes and you want those promotions, that is when you look back and you can show your kids.

“It is nice to have those and I am hoping that we can push for that this season.”

Hall played under Mark Cooper as Swindon missed out on the playoffs in League One during the 2013/14 season and the 32-year-old said that he has grown a lot since that time.

He said: “[I have grown] hugely, it seems like so long ago now, to think it was ten years ago makes it feel like it has gone so quick.

“That was a really good learning experience for me when I was at Swindon 10 years ago, it was my first insight into men’s football and I will be honest, I found it tough.

“It opened my eyes a lot to where I needed to get to to play at the level I wanted to and I feel like I have developed a lot since then and now I think I can add a lot to this team and help the club push for promotion.”
