Former Swindon Advertiser Swindon Town Player of the Season Frazer Blake-Tracy is set to depart the club this summer, the Adver understands.

According to an anonymous source who has chosen not to be named to protect relationships, Town had an option to extend his contract for an additional year but, following discussions with the player, will not be exercising it after the player indicated he did not want to stay.

The 28-year-old initially joined Swindon on loan from Burton Albion in the summer of 2022, before making it a permanent deal in January 2023 when he signed a contract that ran through until the end of the current season.

This weekend’s clash with Morecambe at the County Ground will be his last for the club, having made 72 appearances in the last two seasons.

Blake-Tracy won the Swindon Advertiser, Official Supporters Club, and SAS Travel Player of the Season during his first season with the club and was also crowned as the Disabled Supporters Club’s Player of the Season for this campaign.

This comes after revelations that eight players had been told that they were surplus to requirements and would be departing the club this summer.

As many as eight squad members were told they were free to go and find other clubs following meetings on Tuesday morning, a source has said.

It is not known which of the other players have been released, but it is understood all first-team squad members at the club were told either way.

Blake-Tracy is one of 11 players in the current squad who are out of contract this summer, plus Jack Bycroft, Pharrell Johnson, Sean McGurk, and Paul Glatzel who all have contracts that expire this summer but have optional extensions for another season.

“I think we are getting close with the players” was Gavin Gunning’s response when asked in last Thursday’s press conference ahead of the Grimsby Town match on the current state of play with regards to the contract negotiations with the players.

The interim head coach had said that “two or three” of his first team squad had played well enough during the final weeks of the season to change the club’s mind about what they planned to do with them during the summer.

However, following the match at Blundell Park, the 33-year-old also made it clear that a clear-out was coming this summer with plenty of change coming in the playing staff.
