CHIPPENHAM Town extended the club’s unbeaten run to 13 games after a 1-1 draw at home to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday and a 3-2 success against Welling United at the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium in midweek.
Joe Parker’s 81st-minute equaliser cancelled out Shiloh Remy’s first-half penalty at the weekend.
On Tuesday, strikes from Parker and Matt McClure saw the Bluebirds ahead after Taylor Maloney replied for Welling shortly after Chippenham’s opener.
Maloney grabbed his second from the spot early in the subsequent 45, only for Ed Williams to net his first Bluebirds goal 20 minutes from time.
Reflecting on the past two games, Horgan said: “Saturday was difficult because of the condition of the pitch – we struggled to get our passing going.
“We fell behind against the run of play, but we got in at half-time and made a couple of little adjustments. We came out again on the front foot and deservedly picked up an equaliser.
“From there, there was only one team likely to win the game. But it was a really good point against a team which is looking to get into the play-offs.
“On Tuesday, it was a really, really good performance in terms of the way we moved the ball.
“Welling scored against the run of play, but we scored two good goals to go back in front.
“Maybe some of that confidence was misplaced, but we found a way to win, and it could have been four or five in the end.”
With six wins from the past seven games, Chippenham have soared up to 14th place in National League South and are one of the form teams in the division.
With such a long unbeaten run comes confidence and momentum – two factors which Horgan is delighted to see his players possess.
He said: “Confidence is a hugely-important asset at any level in football, so is momentum, and we’ve picked that up as well.
“In those games where we’ve fallen behind in the past couple of weeks, we’ve been on top and those goals have been against the run of play.
“It’s not like we were getting battered and you’re fearing the worst, we’re in there knowing we’ve been on top, so we were confident we would get back into the game.”
