CHIPPENHAM Town lost 2-1 to Braintree Town in National League South last weekend, despite a debut goal for new signing, Owen Windsor.
The former West Bromwich Albion and Carlisle United forward netted late on in the reverse, bundling home after a scramble in the box following a free-kick.
Windsor’s contribution as a substitute came days after he put pen to paper on a contract with the Bluebirds following a successful trial period.
Chippenham manager Gary Horgan was glowing in his report of the 21-year-old and hopes he can continue to provide goals and assists as the Bluebirds look to rise up the table before the end of the season.
Horgan said: “It’s good to bring Owen in. We’re always looking to add good players and make improvements.
“We think he’s someone who can offer us something different in wide and forward areas, and he was good in the 10 minutes he was on at the weekend.
“He’s quite a good and exciting dribbler who’s got a bit of an edge to him. It was nice to get him on and see him get on the scoresheet against Braintree.
“Hopefully, we can bed him in over the next couple of weeks and we can start to create more chances which can be finished off either by him or someone else.”
Horgan was talking after Chippenham’s 12th loss of the season – a result which saw the Thornbury Surfacing Stadium club drop to 22nd in the table.
The Bluebirds boss was – not for the first time this campaign – satisfied with most aspects of his squad’s performance but felt they were bullied physically against one of the most direct teams in the league.
Dissecting the weekend’s game as a whole, Horgan said: “I don’t want to sound like a stuck record, but the performance was really, really good.
“We’d won the game in every stat apart from the one that really counts. But I can’t write to the league and ask them for the three points back, so we have to move on!
“It was a good performance though, and on another day we win that game. In terms of control, we probably had more control and possession than we did when we drew 1-1 at their place.
“But ultimately, on the day we’ve probably been out-done by more physicality really. We haven’t been able to deal with their long balls and the aerial threat in and around our box.”
