COLLINGBOURNE Cricket Club season has drawn to a close following a momentous weekend for its members.
Two of the club’s hard-working members, David Malley and Barry Reed, were honoured by Wiltshire Cricket at the annual Outstanding Services to Cricket Awards.
This comes as way of recognition of their leadership in establishing a women’s section at Collingbourne.
The pair have also been shortlisted for the national awards – the first from Wiltshire to be honoured in this way.
At the same event, youth players Sam Ashman received awards for scoring a century and taking five wickets in Wiltshire county representative cricket.
The next day, the club hosted their youth presentation evening and more than 50 young players were present to hear youth co-ordinator, Owen Sheppard, reflect on a season that saw good progress made on the field by so many young players.
Collingbourne had teams competing in U9s, U11s and U13s age groups and also ran Cricketing All Stars for very young children.
Finally, the club hosted the largest women’s softball cricket festival in Wiltshire on Sunday.
Teams from Collingbourne, Redlynch & Hale, Burbage, Royal Wootton Bassett, Corsham and Chippenham took part in a round-robin festival.
