BROMHAM win cup battle of champions
THIRD Division champions Bromham capped an excellent first season in the league when took the final trophy of the season, the Dave Wolf Construction Ltd Subsidiary Cup with a 6-4 win over Division One champions Semington at Westbury United's Meadow Lane on Sunday.
After 12 minutes Bromham took the lead when Ryan Bole ran with the ball from the halfway line before beating a defender and the keeper to score.
Semington fought back and after 28 minutes Sam Malone’s cross from the left was turned in by Chris Dore to equalise.
Semington took command of the early part of the second period and Dan Rimmer gave them the lead after 64 minutes.
Bromham fought back and after 75 minutes equalised when Semington keeper Jamie Hutton made a fine save from a fierce shot but could only parry the ball and Eddie Summers reacted quickest to turn the ball home.
Both teams were denied a winner in normal time by the woodwork and with extra time also unable to separate them, the match went to a penalty shootout.
Luke Child, Harry Marsh, Sam Wallis and Bole all scored for Bromham and Simon Partington scored Semington’s first but Bromham keeper Sam Wallis saved the second from Rich Allum.
Daniel Rimmer scored to keep Semington in it but then Dean Shaw missed to hand Bromham a 4-2 shootout triumph.
Semington captain Bobby Mitchell was named man of the match, with Julian Sattin refereeing the game, assisted by Kegan Smart and Kevin Hopkins and fourth official Neil Hawker.
