CLARRIE Dunbar have yet to win a national team title during the 32 years that the indoor club has been open, writes DAVE EATON.

However, they have reached the third round of the Top Club in early January after whitewashing Malvern Hills 16pts to nil winning all five disciplines.

While last weekend in the third round of the Egham Trophy they pulled off a splendid 86-47 victory over old rivals City & County of Bristol IBC.

Dunbar controlled the round three match throughout. They led overall 23-13 at five ends, 50-26 at 10 and had roared 79-36 clear at 15 and were 85-44 ahead overall at 18 when the white flags were waved.

Clarrie won on all four rinks with both home foursomes led by Graham Shadwell and Andy Colebrooke winning by 13 shots.

The next round against Swindon-based Westlecot which will take place on Monday, November 27 (6pm).

Home - Rink 2: Jeanette Wheeler, Sue Bird, Wayne Snook & Graham Shadwell beat Gerry Cofffield 22-9. Rink 3: Thelma Bailey, Nesta Parfitt, Dale Taylor & Andy Colebrooke beat Eric Seaville 25-12 (18 ends).

Away - Rink 5: Marcia Hartley, Jo Dunford, Duncan McGovern & Neil Collett beat John Crouch 24-16 (20 ends). Rink 6: Teresa King, Nicola Ratcliffe, Craig Doughty & Keith Bailey beat B Barry 15-10 (16 ends).

On Saturday (tomorrow) Clarrie Dunbar clash with Bristol again, this time in the Denny Cup, with two rinks at home at Standerwick and two away in south Bristol.

Tomorrow also sees the ladies team take to the green alongside the men in the ‘second chance’ Yetton Plate against Nailsea.

Then on Sunday holders Clarrie Dunbar begin the defence of their overall Wessex League title they secured last April with a narrow 72-70 victory over Kingsthorpe, Northants at Bristol City and County IBC.

This Sunday Clarrie men face Nailsea in their opening central region fixture of the 2017/18 season hoping to start the new campaign on a winning note.

GRAHAM Shadwell, twice a winner in 2005 and 2013 when representing Clarrie Dunbar, has qualified once more for the Area 16 Champion of Champions final.

He will meet Malvern Hills junior England international Ryan Atkins in the area final on the neutral green at City and County of Bristol on Tuesday, November 21 at 7pm.

To reach this stage of the 2017/18 champion of champions competition Shadwell thumped former England team mate John Hick (Clevedon) 21-7 in the semi-final to book his place against Atkins.

Previously Shadwell had beaten Matthew Elly (Purnell) 21-12 and in a tight area quarter-final Christie Miller’s Andy Moore 21-18.

Should Shadwell beat Atkins in the Area 16 final he would have to go into an inter area final against the Area 17 winner possibly Robert Paxton (Taunton Deane).

The winner of the inter-area final qualifies for the last 16 and grand finals at Warner Leisure Hotels Lakeside, Hayling Island, Hampshire at the beginning of February next year.

CHRISTIE Miller men face Isle of Wedmore in the second round of the Denny Plate tomorrow morning at 10am.

They face Isle of Wedmore in the second round of the Denny Plate after thrashing Victoria (Weston-Super-Mare) 97-53 in the opening round of the consolation tournament which features first round losers in the main Denny Cup competition.

Isle of Wedmore beat North Wilts 79-64 in their opening Denny Plate match a fortnight ago.

THE MEN’S senior side at Christie Miller face Cotswold A (Stroud) in their third game of the men's O60s double rink on Tuesday, November 28.
