CLARRIE Dunbar recorded a fine winning double last weekend in two separate national team events, the men’s inter-club championship for the Denny Cup and the Top Club mixed inter-club competition.
They blitzed St Andrews (Weston-Super-Mare) 83-47 to set up a cup third-round tie on November 18 against arch-rivals Bristol.
In the Top Club, the Standerwick-based club were in devastating form whitewashing Worcestershire side Malvern Hills.
Dunbar took the honours on all four rinks against St Andrews with Graham Shadwell’s quartet leading the way with a 16-shot win.
They were ably backed-up at home by Andrew Colebrooke (eight shots) while away Neil Collett won by 10 shots and Keith Bailey by two shots.
Clarrie led throughout this match leading across the board 22-8 after five ends, 44-20 at 10, 64-35 at 15 and 76-44 after 18 when a couple of games at St Andrews were conceded.
Malvern Hills are a strong indoor club with several current or former internationals in their line-up but they were brushed aside by a rampant Clarrie Dunbar team who took the accolades in all of the five disciplines - two wood singles (men and ladies), mixed pairs, mixed triples and mixed fours for a 16 points to nil success..
Only one of the five matches in the Top Club was a close contest.
The triples team skipped by Andy Colebrooke edged home 16-15 against England international Shaun Jones’ trio 16-15.
Otherwise the remaining four disciplines produced healthy victories – the biggest coming in the mixed fours skipped by Graham Shadwell beating ex-Westlecot player Brian McNamara 23-9.
Clarrie Dunbar progress to round three of the Top Club competition and an early January home meeting with Swindon Westlecot.

SHADWELL, twice a winner in 2005 and 2013 when representing Clarrie Dunbar, has qualified once more for the Area 16 Champion of Champions final.
He has to meet Malvern Hills junior international Ryan Atkins in the area final on a neutral green by November 26.
To reach this stage of the 2017/18 champion of champions competition Shadwell thumped former England team mate John Hick (Clevedon) 21-7 in the semi-final to book his place against Atkins.
Previously Shadwell had beaten Matthew Elly (Purnell) 21-12 and in a tight area quarter-final Christie Miller’s Andy Moore 21-18.
Should Shadwell beat Atkins in the Area 16 final he would have to go into an inter area final against the Area 17 winner possibly Robert Paxton (Taunton Deane).
The winner of the inter-area final qualifies for the last 16 and grand finals at Warner Leisure Hotels Lakeside, Hayling Island, Hampshire at the beginning of February next year.
