MIKE Brown, from Worton, took top spot at the Lavington match on Baldham Mill on Sunday.
Fish were hard to tempt but Brown’s roach and gudgeon catch weighed 1lb 13oz and beat Lavington’s Graham Pearce into runner-up spot with a roach and gudgeon catch of 11oz. Brian Ellis, from Melksham, was third with a roach and gudgeon catch of 7oz.
Weights were fairly even in the Wilts Angling Open fished on Sunday at Todber Manor.
Mark Poppleton, from Devizes, took top honours with a carp catch of 76lb 8oz. Weymouth’s Steve Crawford pushed him all the way to finish a close runner-up with a carp catch of 76lb 2oz and Ian Stainer, from Trowbridge, clinched third prize with a carp catch of 68lb 9oz.
Other placings: 4 Nathaniel Johnson (Melksham) 64lb 14oz; 5 Nick Merry (Gillingham) 54lb 3oz; 6 Ian Willetts (Bradford) 36lb 12oz.
Sunday’s Airsprung Open match on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Tithe Barn produced reasonable catches, with Shaftesbury’s Rob Randell triumphant with a skimmers and roach catch weighing 6lb 9oz.
There was a tie for runner-up spot between Gary Etheridge, from Devizes, and Bradford’s Vic Abbott after both claimed skimmers and roach catches of 5lb 14oz.
Other placings: 4 Mike Marsden (Westbury) 5lb 12oz; 5 Alan Gibbs (Devizes) 5lb 2oz; 6 Richard Whitmarsh (Frome) 5lb 1oz.
