THE River Marden at Hazeland was in very good form for the Calne Open match.
Nigel Smith, from Calne, carried off top prize with a chub and skimmers catch of 18 lb 8 oz.
Fellow Calne man Gary Dodson was runner-up with 12 lb 3 oz of chub and roach, while Pat Samuel completed the all Calne podium with a chub catch weighing 9 lb 7 oz.
Other placings: 4 Guy Manners (Chippenham) 8 lb 0 oz; 5 Nigel Reeves (Calne) 7 lb 12 oz; 6 Martin Pallett (Newbury) 6 lb 5 oz.
The Kennet & Avon Canal at Airsprung and Tithe Barn was in great shape for the Airsprung Open Pairs match.
Steve Saunders, from Melksham, took top honours with a mixed catch of skimmers and perch weighing 18 lb 4oz.
Mike Marsden, from Westbury, was runner up with a roach and skimmers catch of 16 lb 3 oz, while there was a tie for third spot between Devizes’ Howard Adams and Mike Bernstein, from Andover, both taking roach and skimmers catches of 14 lb 2 oz.
Steve Saunders and Martin Barrett, from Trowbridge, took the pairs prize with six points and weight of 22 lb 10 oz, with Mike Bernstein and Rob Randall second on eight points and 20 lb 6 oz.
Other placings: 5 Gary Etheridge (Devizes) 13 lb 2 oz; 6 Nick Merry (Shaftesbury) 11 lb 11 oz.
The Avon Open Pairs match produced reasonable sport on the Bristol Avon at Melksham.
Top honours went to Alan Hillier, from Westbury, with a roach and skimmers catch of 8 lb 11 oz.
Alan Cranston was runner-up with a roach and skimmers catch of 7 lb1 oz and there was a tie for third between Kevin Rowles, of Devizes, and Rob Kepner, from Melksham, both with roach and skimmer catches of 6 lb 14 oz.
The pairs prize went to Alan Hillier and Tony Gilbert, from Melksham, with 14 lb 12 oz 8 dm.
Other placings: 5 Jim Escott (Melksham) 6 lb 8 oz; 6 Tony Gilbert (Melksham) 6 lb 1 oz 8 dm.
