VICTOR Cox feels like he has finally achieved something he’s been working towards his whole race career as he prepares for his first full season in the British Superbikes Championship.
The 28-year-old Trowbridge speedster has competed in the National Superstock 1000 Championship, a BSB support series, since 2006 but will be stepping up to the big leagues this year after being recruited by Norwich-based Morello Racing.
Cox, who was third in the 2012 Superstock series, has previously ridden a handful of BSB rounds as a guest but says that he feels ready to get his teeth into the country’s leading superbike championship in earnest.
“It’s exciting. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for my whole career and I’m really looking forward to racing properly in the BSB,” said Cox, who will be partnered by Daniel Johnson.
“The team I was riding with last year -Direct CCTVSBR - lost their main sponsor halfway through the season and we had to do the second half of the season with a few of my different sponsors.
“It was a tough year but it was great when Morello Racing gave me an opportunity for this year – I can’t wait.
“It’s only their second year in the BSB and we should be going out testing in February.
“I’ve been riding a Kawasaki for the last few years, so it shouldn’t be too hard to get used to things this year. The bike will be a lot closer to a racing bike, meaning that the brakes and things like that will be a lot better.”
Cox added: “I think that I’ll be able to cope with it.
“It’s my first season, so I’m not really thinking about how well I’m going to do. If I can just try and keep showing improvement all the time, I’d be really satisfied with that.”
