NICK Blackwell will step into the ring with former Prizefighter finalist Terry Carruthers on this Saturday’s bill at the Forum, Bath.
A mooted inter-continental title bout hasn’t come to pass for the Trowbridge middleweight and the 23-year-old will instead be taking on Birmingham’s Carruthers (15-16-6) in a ten-round contest.
Carruthers made it to the final of the last light-welterweight Prizefighter tournament before being stopped by Larry Edunkayo and in December last year, the 28-year-old’s British light-welterweight title eliminator bid was curtailed by cuts above both eyes as he was beaten by Jason Welborn, with Carruthers leading on all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage.
Bristol fighter Danny Butler’s English middleweight title defence against Martin Concepcion, who Blackwell beat when he held the belt in March 2012, will top the bill at the Forum.
Malmesbury light-welterweight Joe Hughes will also be in action in a ten-round contest with Bulgarian Kristian Dochev whilst the Contender Gym’s Gareth Heard, Luke Martin and Dan Carr are all also on the bill, taking on Keith Sheen, James Oliphant and Lee Gibbons respectively.
Bath middleweight Mike Rose takes on Czech Jan Balog whilst Bristol's Peter Leworthy and debutant Jason Gardiner will also be in action.
Tickets for Saturday's bill are still available at the Contender Gym (01225 761166).
