WITH Castle FC already guaranteed their place in the final of this season's Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup following the recent withdrawal of three-time winners and cup holders Biddestone Social from the league, second division FC Buscots and fourth division winners Corsham Centre Youth meet to decide who will face them in April’s final at Hardenhuish Park.
The match that kicks off at 10.30am at Stanley Park will see the Centre, despite being 16 places below Buscots in the standings, attempt to deny their opponents the chance of setting up a clash with their local rivals Castle in the final.
Corsham’s cup run started with a bye into the first round proper they then battled to a 3-2 victory over second division Miller Sports A before disposing of first division Kings Arms (All Cannings) 3-1.
In the quarter finals third division Pig & Whistle United were no match for the Centre who coasted to the semi’s thanks to a thumping 8-0 success.
Buscot’s route to the semi-final began with a 5-4 win over fellow second division side Southwick Wanderers before they received a walkover at the first round stage when North Star B were unable to raise a team.
Buscot’s then won another nail-biter against first division Somerford who, after holding them to a 5-5 draw after 120 minutes, they beat 5-3 on penalties to set up a meeting with Division One pacesetters Prestige Bodyworks where they recorded probably their best win of the season to date with a 4-1 triumph.
