WITH other results going their way Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories, Trowbridge League Division One champions-elect Freshford United powered to a classy 12-0 win against a beleaguered relegation battlers Calne Eagles.

Freshford got their noses in front after only five minutes when Nick Ross scored following a corner and never looked back.

With a strong wind behind them they dominated the play and were in unforgiving mood. They passed the ball with pace and accuracy and Eagles’ young team could just not match their superior opponents.

Mark Gerrish, Ricky Trott, Tom Rooney all scored before Steve Roddy bagged himself a first-half hat-trick to give Freshford a half-time lead.

Freshford had chalked up seven goals without reply by half time, and despite an improvement from Calne in the second half a late flurry of goals at the end of the match, as Calne were dead on their feet, saw the away side chalk a massive 12-0 win.

A second from Rooney, Ross, Trott and Gerrish and Chris Maskrey’s single made up Freshford’s dozen.

Freshford showed their championship quality throughout, not just in their play, but also in their behaviour as they showed total respect towards their opponents as they battled in vain to stem the endless onslaught.

Bradford United 1 Semington Magpies 1

A WEEK after Bradford United defeated Semington Magpies 2-1, the two sides went head-to-head in the reverse encounter at Culver Close with the points being shared following a 1-1 draw.

Like a week ago it was Bradford who had the better of the first half with Dan Thorne giving them a half-time lead thanks to his first goal for the club.

Semington fought back in the second half and scored their equaliser through Corey Williams who volleyed home a Joe Flower cross to give his team a deserved share of the points.

Steeple Ashton 4 Westbury United Reserves 1

NEIL Taylor’s Steeple Ashton, who were moments away from taking a point off table-toppers Freshford United last weekend, played host to another of the title-chasing sides in Westbury United Reserves on Saturday afternoon.

The villagers put in one of their best performances for a very long time as they tore up the form book and secured their top flight safety and ended their guests hopes of winning the title after claiming a stunning 4-1 win.

Ashton had the perfect start with Damien Hateley rifling home from 20 yards to take the lead on four minutes.

Ashton stunned Westbury when they increased their advantage midway through the half when Mike Hindle scrambled the ball home for 2-0.

Westbury made a positive start to the second period and they halved the deficit when Joe Edwards turned the ball in and they went close to getting themselves back on level terms when Ryan Earny rattled the upright.

Westbury then pinned Ashton back in their own half but as they searched for an equaliser Ashton caught them on the break and took a 3-1 lead on 80 minutes when Rafal Whitcher netted after being set clear by Marc Sheppard.

Another classic counter attack goal with five minutes remaining saw Ashton complete their remarkable victory when Sheppard went from provider to scorer but all-in-all the win was down to an excellent all-round team effort.

The Lamb FC 3 North Bradley 1

NORTH Bradley saw their title hopes suffer a massive dent when they suffered a 4-1 at home to Lamb FC at the end of January.

So when the two teams squared up in return fixture at Whaddon Lane the only things on Bradley’s mind was revenge as they looked to keep pace with leaders Freshford United.

Lamb, who have lost back-to-back games since their success over Bradley, finally ended any hopes Bradley may have had of finishing top of the pile by following up their earlier win with a 3-1 triumph to complete a double over Chris Carr’s men.

Lamb led 1-0 at the interval thanks to a Tom Blackman effort. The second half saw Sean O’Brian double Lamb’s lead with a sublime 35-yard strike that gave stand-in Bradley keeper Mark Binns no chance.

Binns was left rooted to the spot for Lamb’s third which was again scored by O’Brian was again another stunning long range effort that like his first sailed into the top corner of the net.

Bradley response came late in the game from Reuben Spong but it was a case of too little, too late as Lamb saw the game out and take a victory that moved them into third spot just one point behind their opponents who have played one game less than their conquerors.

Warminster Town Reserves 5 Trowbridge Wanderers 1

A 5-1 LOSS at Warminster Town Reserves saw bottom-of-the-table Trowbridge Wanderers slump to their 13th defeat of the season and leaves Phil Webb’s side with five games to preserve their first division status.

Warminster fell behind to a Jamie Kinchy goal but thanks to goals from Shaun Tarr and Dave Watkins had got their noses in front by half time.

The second half saw Warminster build on the first half revival as they hit three unanswered goals to claim a morale-boosting win after their midweek A&B Cup semi-final loss to Westbury United Reserves.

A second from Tarr and Shaun Sheppard’s double made up Warminster’s nap hand.
