FROME Town chief Adrian Foster says that he’s ready to embrace the future after his club announced plans to install a new artificial 3G pitch at Badgers Hill.
After holding talks with the Football Association and the Somerset FA, the Calor League Premier Division outfit have decided that they will replace their current playing surface with synthetic turf, and Foster feels the switch can only benefit his club.
“I do love playing on grass pitches that have a bit of a bounce because that’s what I’m used to but we train on a 3G pitch every Tuesday night and I’m a fan of that kind of surface too,” said the Robins boss.
“At the end of the day, you can’t keep having games called off all the time at this level of football, because it’s the clubs that lose out.
“We’d be able to carry on playing all year round and the club would be able to hire the pitch out too, so it can only benefit us.
“It’s a great surface if you want to try and play good football, which is something that we’re looking to do as well.”
Frome secretary Ian Pearce said: “It means we won’t have the issues of postponing matches, which significantly hits our income as games are always better supported on a Saturday than a midweek, and with the weather getting worse every winter, it also means we don’t end up with a fixture backlog.”
Community development officer Gary Collinson added: “This will be open to use by all clubs, not just Frome Town. We have so many of our own youth teams playing out of town because of lack of facilities but this will mean that we will be able to provide far more for the community now, on so many levels.”
Last weekend Frome picked up a point as they held Hungerford Town to a goalless draw.
“It was a good point in the end for us because I thought they were a good side,” said Foster.
“They could have scored one or two in the first 10 minutes but we defended well and then could have scored a couple ourselves later on - but a draw was a fair result.”
Frome welcome defender Rhys Baggridge back from suspension for tomorrow’s home clash with AFC Totton.
The Robins then make the trip to Dorset on Monday night for their long-awaited away fixture at Poole Town.
