A SECOND HALF goal from Nick Taylor booked Westbury United Reserves’ place in the final of this season’s Briken Motors & AM Print & Copy-sponsored A&B Cup final following their 1-0 victory over near-neighbours Warminster Town Reserves at Meadow Lane on Tuesday evening.
Neither side were able to break the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes, Westbury having the better of the of the first 15 minutes without creating any real chance on goal.
Warminster had the first shot on goal of note with Adam Cullington warming the hands of keeper Leo Whitehead on 17 minutes and almost immediately at the other end Phil Hampson wriggled clear of his marker but dragged his shot wide of the target.
Westbury were forced into a change on 21 minutes when an injury to Hampson led him to being replaced by DJ Wheeler.
On 35 minutes Westbury's Marc Lanfear fashioned himself a chance but his effort from 10 yards wasn't up to his usual standard.
Warminster finished the half with a flourish that saw James Collett shot wide and Shaun Tarr blast over from 18 yards.
Westbury had a glorious chance to take the lead on the stroke of half time with Lanfear being denied by the feet of Callum Hotine whose save ensured the teams went in level at the break.
Westbury had the best of the second-half chances with Warminster’s keeper Hotine keeping his team in the contest before and after the hosts broke the deadlock on 60 minutes.
Lanfear and Wheeler combined to set up Taylor to fire home what proved to be the winner for Jason Edwards’ side, who booked their appearance in the first of two possible finals.
Their other shot comes when they take on Castle Combe for a spot in the Knockout Cup final.
