WITH a place in this season’s A&B Cup semi-finals in the bag, Westbury United Reserves' attention turned to the Chantry Digital Ltd-sponsored Knockout Cup on Saturday afternoon where the first division side hosted local rivals White Horse
Westbury's 3-1 victory ended their rivals' hope of a unique quadruple.
Westbury went ahead on 23 minutes when Jack Hayward’s goal-bound effort was helped in by the unfortunate Russell Dyer.
White Horse got themselves level just before half time with Dan Cox scoring from the penalty spot to take the teams into the interval locked together at one apiece.
The first goal of the second period was always going to be important and it went the way of the hosts to regained the lead on 46 minutes when Nick Taylor turned in an Ashley Easton corner.
Westbury had to wait until the 87th minute before finally sealing their semi-final spot at home to Castle Combe with Gary Tugwell’s through ball picking out Derek Wheeler who finished well to wrap up victory for the green and whites.
United FC 1 Worton & Cheverell 3
SECOND Division Worton & Cheverell booked their place in the semi-finals with a thrilling 3-1 win over third division United FC at Clarendon Academy.
Jamie Sandy gave Worton a 27th-minute lead with his fourth goal of the season before Adam Wiorek drew the hosts level with his first goal for the club a minutes before the break.
United started the second half on top and Jozef Zapotoczny missed a glorious chance to give them the lead before Adam Bewley restored Worton’s lead on 69 minutes before a second of the game from Sandy on 85 minutes completed victory for the visitors, who will face Lacock in the semi-finals.
