MARK Poppleton, from Trowbridge, clinched the championship in the Landsend Winter League after taking runner-up spot in the final match of the series.
Paul Elmes, of Avon Angling, won on the day with 166lb 5oz of carp, followed by Mark Poppleton, fishing for South West MG, with 110lb 3oz.
Adrian Jefferies, of Avon Angling, was third with 81lb 10oz of carp, while the silvers prize went to Bob Gullick, of Garbolino BVMG, with 36lb 12oz.
Other placings: 4 Gary O’Shea, Preston Innovation Thatchers 62lb 12oz; 5 Mark Brennan, Preston Innovation Thatchers 55lb 10oz; 6 Ken Rayner, South West MG 51lb 15oz.
Final league: 1 Mark Poppleton 29; 2 Craig Edmunds Avon Angling 27; 3 Paul Elmes 26.
- ROOD Ashton was in good form on Sunday for the Wilts Angling Open match.
Chippenham matchman Stuart White is enjoying a purple patch at present and chalked up another fine win with 92lb 8oz of carp.
Dave Bancroft, from Trowbridge, pushed him all the way to finish second with 88lb 11oz, unluckily losing a couple of big carp to cost him top spot.
Jim Butcher, from Bradford, clinched third with 65lb 10oz of carp.
